Indian Oaks

Lake Worth Village, previously called Indian Oaks, is an incorporated residential community near the banks of Lake Worth on the outskirts of northwest Fort Worth on State Highway 199 in northwestern Tarrant County. In the mid-1920s the property of George T. Reynolds was sold by his widow, Lucinda, as a subdivision named Indian Oaks. Adjacent to Lake Worth, Indian Oaks became a popular residential and recreational spot during the late 1920s and early 1930s, offering casino play, a dance hall, a boardwalk, and a popular club called the Showboat. The Great Depression ended the recreational nature of Indian Oaks, but after World War II the residential neighborhood grew. In the early 1950s residents decided to incorporate and changed the name of the community to Lake Worth Village. The majority of the 2,000 residents worked in nearby Fort Worth. The population steadily increased with business growth in Tarrant County. In 1990 Lake Worth Village had a population of 4,591. In 2000 the population increased to 4,618.
