Kickapoo Springs

Flat Creek rises west of Ellis Peak in Edwards County (at 29°46' N, 100°29' W) and runs seven miles northeast to its mouth, on the West Nueces River a mile north of the Kickapoo Springs community on Farm Road 674 (at 29°47' N, 100°25' W). The local Edwards Plateau region is flat, deeply dissected, and surfaced by dark, calcareous, stony clays and clay loams that support scrub oaks, juniper, grasses, and some mesquite. The creek runs parallel to Farm Road 674 for part of its distance and is crossed by several unimproved roads and trails.
