Kinwood
Kinwood (Kenwood) is on U.S. Highway 59 and the Southern Pacific Railroad four miles south of Humble in northeastern Harris County. Its name was changed from Kenwood to Kinwood when the post office discovered another town already using the former name, though in the Texan language the homophony problem remained. State highway maps in 1936 showed a church, a sawmill, and numerous dwellings in the community. A post office, established in 1945, was discontinued in 1958, and mail was delivered from Houston. The population of Kinwood in 1948 was 156. It had a business in 1952 and two in 1958. In the 1980s three churches and numerous residences remained at the townsite, and the Johnson School and Brookside Memorial Park Cemetery were nearby.
