Las Lulas

Sandiguela (Sanguijuela) Creek, an arroyo, rises between Cerro Pardo on the east and Cerro Chino on the west in western Presidio County (at 30°05' N, 104°34' W) and runs 10½ miles to its mouth on the Rio Grande, two miles upriver from Las Lulas community (at 30°03' N, 104°42' W). It is one of numerous arroyos running from the rimrock across the Presidio Bolson to the river. The course crosses variable slopes of igneous deposits and bolson deposits of sand and gravel. The soil in the area is light reddish-brown to brown sand, clay loams, and rough stony ground. Area vegetation consists primarily of sparse grasses, cacti, and desert shrubs. Sanguijuela is Spanish for "leech."
