Loma Alta
Loma Alta is on U.S. Highway 277 between Open Hollow and Miers Draw, 2½ miles southwest of Vinegarone in east central Val Verde County. It was founded by the Davis family, who moved to the area in February 1906; the Davis brothers, Ray, Lin, and Emery, took up ranchland in the area and raised families there. Loma Alta stands at an altitude of 2,007 feet above sea level; its name is Spanish for "high hill" or "knoll." In the 1970s Loma Alta served the ranching community and tourists with a gas station and a store. In 2000 the population was thirty.
