Louisiana Settlement
The term Louisiana Settlement refers to a cluster of small rural communities located in west central Polk County. The settlement encompassed an area of seven to ten square miles and was settled in the 1840s by migrants from Louisiana. They set up plantations, and a group of communities, including Bold Springs, Colita, Patonia, Canary, and Pleasant Hill, evolved.
