Mount Comfort
Mount Comfort is on Farm Road 855 twenty-one miles northwest of Rusk in northwestern Cherokee County. It was founded before the Civil War and grew up around an early church. A local post office operated from 1855 to 1859, and a school for black children was in operation by 1896, when it had an enrollment of seventy-six. In the mid-1930s Mount Comfort had two churches, a school, and a number of houses. The school was later closed, but in the early 1990s a church, a store, and a cemetery still remained in the area. No population estimates were available in 2000. Highway maps still showed the Mount Comfort Cemetery.
