Murvaul

Murvaul, on Farm Road 10 and Murvaul Creek, eight miles south of Carthage in south central Panola County, was settled around the time of the Civil War. A post office operated there from 1874 to 1880 and from 1899 to 1918. In 1882 the reported population was 200. Around 1900 the community served as a stop on the Texas and Gulf Railroad. After World War I Murvaul began to decline. By the early 1990s only a few scattered dwellings remained in the area. After World War II, maps also showed a second, smaller, community called Murvaul, located on Farm Road 699 eight miles southeast of Carthage. In 1990 the reported population of Murvaul was 110. The population remained unchanged in 2000.
