Northcrest

Northcrest is on Interstate Highway 35 six miles north of Waco in north central McLennan County. After its incorporation in 1958 the community's population increased rapidly, rising from 625 in 1960 to 1,669 in 1970 and to 1,944 in 1980. Northcrest was basically a bedroom community, its economy almost completely dependent on nearby cities. Most residents were employed in either Waco or Bellmead, and the local school system was part of the Connally Independent School District. The population was estimated at 2,240 in the late 1980s. In 1990 it was 1,725.
