Olmos
Olmos is on U.S. Highway 83 a mile east of Rio Grande City in southern Starr County. It was originally a station on the Rio Grande City Railway, at the Vela Ranch Road. The line was constructed in 1925 and ran from Rio Grande City in Starr County to Sam Fordyce in Hidalgo County. The community was still identified on the 1986 county highway map. Around that time it had several hundred people and half a dozen stores; it stretched almost from the Rio Grande City limits to Santa Cruz.
