Ranch Branch

Ranch Branch rises in East Ranch Branch and West Ranch Branch 2½ miles west of Ranch Road 1222 in northwestern Mason County (at 30°54' N, 99°23' W) and runs north for four miles to its mouth on the San Saba River in McCulloch County, one-half mile north of the McCulloch county line (at 30°57' N, 99°23' W). Rising in the limestone hills on the eastern edge of the Edwards Plateau, the creek crosses terrain characterized by flat to rolling prairie and soils ranging from shallow and stony to moderately deep clayey loams. Vegetation consists primarily of grasses and open stands of live oak, mesquite, and Ashe juniper.
