Rebecca is on State Highway 103 and the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway, by the Sabine county line ten miles southeast of San Augustine in eastern San Augustine County. It started as a station on the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway in the early 1900s. When the community was granted a post office in 1906, it was named for Rebecca Phelps, daughter of J. A. Phelps, who ran the post office in his general store. Phelps family tradition holds that two-year-old Rebecca wandered into the woods and was never seen again. Hence, she was memorialized with the town name. The post office closed in 1921, and by 1940 all that remained of the community was the railway station.
