Round Mountain

Round Mountain was located in northeastern McCulloch County in the vicinity of Deep Creek between Placid and Mercury. Presumably named for nearby Round Mountain, the community was settled in the 1880s by ranching families. P. S. Stark built the first log cabin in the area, and the community received mail from Mercury. Round Mountain school district, formed in 1884, was one of the original districts in the county. In 1929 the Round Mountain school consolidated with the Rochelle district. Round Mountain was a voting precinct in 1905 and 1949. The community was not listed on maps in the 1980s.
