Scruggs
Scruggs, a farming community nine miles northwest of Carthage near the site of what is now Beckville in northwestern Panola County, was established sometime after the Civil War. A subscription school began operating there before 1900, and in 1907 it became part of the county school system. The school was consolidated with that of Beckville in 1928, and by the mid-1930s only a church and a number of houses remained in the area. After World War II Scruggs was no longer shown on maps.
