Slate Shoals
Slate Shoals is a small rural community located on Farm Road 906 about sixteen miles northeast of Paris in northeastern Lamar County, just south of the Red River and the Oklahoma state line. The town was named for the slate that was prevalent along the banks (shoals) of area creeks and waterways. Slate Shoals probably existed by the early 1900s and in the 1930s consisted of numerous farms and homes and a school, church, business establishment, and factory. The settlement still appeared on highway maps in the 1990s. No population figures were available in 2000.
