South Point
South Point is located on Farm Road 1419 about eight miles southeast of downtown Brownsville in the southern tip of Cameron County. This community, probably named for its geographic location, existed in this region by the 1930s. County highway maps showed two businesses, a cemetery, and numerous farms and dwellings in the area. No population figures were available until 2000 when the census reported 1,118 residents. South Point, which consists of primarily Hispanic lower-income families, is part of the Brownsville Independent School District.
