Vreeland
Vreeland was on the Waco, Beaumont, and Sabine Valley Railway eighty-three miles north of Houston in west central Polk County. Apparently seeking to capitalize on the railroad, constructed in 1908, and on the nearby logging facilities at Blanchard and East Tempe, northern land speculators developed a townsite, which they named after the surveyor. Although the Vreeland town plat was filed in 1915, the project never developed as its sponsors wished. However, the more recent construction of Lake Livingston spurred residential development near the abandoned townsite during the 1960s and 1970s.
