Wheatland

Wheatland, also known as Wheatland Community, is off of U.S. Highway 377 eighteen miles southwest of Fort Worth in extreme southwestern Tarrant County. A school operated there by the 1896–97 term, when it had twenty-eight pupils and one teacher. Ten years later its student population reached thirty-three. Wheatland had three businesses, a school, and a few dwellings in 1936. Afterwards, it reported neither population nor business statistics through the 1970s. The construction of nearby Benbrook Reservoir during the 1950s, however, likely began a period of slow growth; in 1991 the community had a population of 175. The population remained the same in 2000.
