Whites Ranch
Oyster Bayou rises seven miles west of Winnie in east central Chambers County (at 29°50' N, 94°30' W). Intermittent in its upper reaches, it follows a southerly course for twenty-three miles to its mouth on East Bay in extreme southern Chambers County (at 29°33' N, 94°28' W). Oyster Bayou's only major tributary is its East Fork, which rises seven miles southwest of Stowell in eastern Chambers County (at 29°46' N, 94°30' W). Also intermittent in its upper stages, the East Fork runs southwest for nine miles to its mouth on Oyster Bayou, nine miles west of White's Ranch (at 29°40' N, 94°32' W). In its lower stages, Oyster Bayou cuts through the Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge. The tidal marshlands serve as an important habitat for waterfowl and provide an excellent nursery for shrimp and oysters.
