Zion Hill
Thompson, also known as Zion Hill, is a farming community just off Farm Road 1280 and four miles west of Friday in northwestern Trinity County. It was originally known as Zion Hill after a Baptist church established in the area during the 1840s; a school with that name had been established before the mid-1880s. By the 1890s the name had been changed to Thompson, for a prominent local family. In 1896 the local school had one teacher and an enrollment of sixty-five, and during the 1930s the community included the school, a church, and a number of houses. The school was later closed, and in the early 1990s only the church and few scattered houses remained in the area.
