Alamita
Alamita, a small Mexican settlement at the crossing of the La BahÃa Road and Alamita Creek in Karnes County, was the predecessor of old Helena, which was established in 1852. The name Alamita, meaning "little cottonwood," was also applied to nearby Alamita Crossing on the San Antonio River and to Alamita Lodge No. 200, A. F. and A. M., which was originally chartered in Helena in 1857 and moved to Karnes City in 1925 (see HELENA, TEXAS).
