Authon

Authon is near Farm Road 113 twelve miles northwest of Weatherford in northwestern Parker County. Settlement began at the site in the late 1870s. The community applied for a post office in 1882 under the name Arthur, but postal authorities substituted Authon. By 1890 the estimated seventy-five residents were served by three churches, a public school, a blacksmith shop, and a general store. Area farmers processed their cotton at the town's steam gin. Other products included grain, livestock, and hides. Postal service was discontinued in 1904. In 1990 the population was five. In 2000 the population grew to fifteen.
