Walnut Run
Walnut Run rises 1½ miles southeast of Beech Grove in western Jasper County (at 30°50' N, 94°06' W). Intermittent in its upper reaches, it flows six miles southwest to its mouth on the Neches River, three miles south of Town Bluff Dam (at 30°47' N, 94°08' W). The creek is formed by the junction of two intermittent branches: Big Walnut Run, which rises three miles east of Jasper and flows to the southwest for seventeen miles; and Little Walnut Run, which rises five miles south of Jasper and flows westward for 9½ miles. The good farmland along Walnut Run attracted some of the earliest settlers of Jasper County, who also constructed several sawmills and gristmills along its banks. A post office named Walnut Run served the residents of west central Jasper County from 1859 to 1861.
