Wilmeth
Wilmeth, in northwestern Runnels County on Farm Road 383 ten miles northwest of Winters, was named for Jo Wilmeth, a Ballinger banker. Mr. and Mrs. Joel Smith had the first store in the community, which began around 1906. Mrs. Smith became the first postmistress in 1907, but the post office closed in 1909. A gin began operating in 1904. Wilmeth had a Church of Christ from 1916 until 1962 and a Methodist church until 1949. A Baptist church organized at nearby Mazeland in 1906 moved to Wilmeth in 1909. In 1940 the town had a population of eighty and three businesses. The same population was reported in 1960, after which population figures were unavailable. In 2000 the population was twenty-five.
