Atlanta

Atlanta was a small farming community near the site of present Luling in southern Caldwell County. Settlers may have been in the area as early as the 1850s. After the Galveston, Harrisburg and San Antonio Railway laid its track from Columbus to the new town of Luling in 1874, residents of Atlanta gradually began to associate themselves with Luling, and Atlanta soon faded. The Atlanta school continued to function until the county established new districts in 1887. No population estimates for Atlanta are available, and the community did not appear on county highway maps. A copy of the Atlanta townsite plat was reproduced in the Plum Creek Almanac in 1986.
