Midway
Midway is just off of U.S. Highway 77 eight miles east of Hillsboro in extreme east central Hill County. It was apparently settled during the late nineteenth century; a school opened there in 1898. By the turn of the century, this school enrolled sixty-five students and employed two teachers. A resident of Midway, Jasper MacMullin, was reportedly the first black man to have title to property in Texas after emancipation. Little additional published information is available concerning the settlement, which has reported no population or business statistics during the twentieth century.
